The image and character of the Lion as a fearless animal was very popular among the Ancient Egyptians royalty and their Gods/Goddess

God Maahes, Goddess Nut, Goddess Tefnut and Goddess Sekhmet were characterized and sometimes portrayed as the body of a human with a lion’s head.

Whereas some Kings & Queens of Ancient Egypt had their Statue made into a sphinx to characterize and portray them as fearless.
